Perspective

While we value the input of scientific inquiry and use those methods in our work, paranormal investigation is a spiritual calling for members of Midwest Spirits. All investigators possess extensive knowledge in multiple branches of the Western Esoteric Tradition, including – Witchcraft, Folk Magic, Ceremonial Magick, and Spiritualism.

Midwest Spirits understands that “ghost hunting,” and even paranormal investigation as a whole, comes from a tradition much older than Victorian spiritualists and reality TV. We are a part of a long line of individuals who throughout history have sought out answers to what lies beyond. There exists a body of esoteric knowledge detailing humanity’s contact with beings we refer to as the spirits. We bring that knowledge to our work along with modern techniques and devices designed to facilitate communication with these spirits.

Investigating the paranormal and helping those who witness it is more than a hobby for us, it is a part of our spiritual calling. To gain a better understanding of the spirits we must reach out to them and find them in the places they inhabit.

We find it vital to know, in the most absolute terms possible, whether or not a phenomenon we encounter has a paranormal origin. Debunking and finding physical explanations is a high priority. We seek the truth, even if that truth defies our expectations or desires.

In our quest for understanding, we refuse to place these phenomena in strict categories. Though we are armed with the knowledge collected through the centuries, we also know that each phenomenon is individual, and no belief system has a monopoly on the truth or truly understands what these beings are.

We believe there will never be “proof.” The best we can achieve is using the knowledge passed down by our ancestors to find evidence and create better theories on the nature of the spirits. Ultimately, this can only be achieved by communicating with them with an open mind.
